Abstract

Treating older-adopted children entails consideration of multiple issues, including the parents’ adoption-related loss history, the child’s trauma, loss and attachment history, and the adoptive family’s dynamics. Therapist interventions target trauma/loss resolution, parental understanding of a trauma/attachment perspective, and parenting behaviors to facilitate the child’s attachment and sense of security.
